ACCT News Release - Consensus Group Announcement

E-mail Print PDF

ACCT Challenge Course Standards Development

In July 2006 the ACCT was awarded the status of Accredited Standards Developer for the challenge course industry by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

ANSI facilitates the development of American National Standards by accrediting the procedures of standards-developing organizations. These groups work cooperatively to develop voluntary national consensus standards.

Accreditation by ANSI signifies that the procedures used by the standards body in connection with the development of American National Standards meet the Institute’s essential requirements for openness, balance, consensus, and due process.

As a part of its Accredited Procedures, ACCT has formed a Consensus Group made up of 15 members who have the responsibility to review draft standards and process them through these procedures. These 15 members are persons with experience in areas of challenge course training, installation, inspection, programming, direct service, and equipment manufacturing.

In addition to the Consensus Group, ACCT maintains several Standards Writing Committees who have the responsibility to write draft standards for consideration and to help in the processing of comments and revisions to draft standards processed by the Consensus Group. These include the Operations/Certification Committee, Installations Standards Committee, and Canopy/Zip Line Tour Committee.

In November 2009 ACCT submitted its Draft Challenge Course Standards, currently in its 7th Edition, for public review. During the public review period more than 90 comments were submitted for processing by the Consensus Group.

All meetings of the Consensus Group for the specific task of processing public comments or the development and/or review of standard drafts are open to the public.

The meeting will be held by teleconference, and those wishing to attend are requested to preregister with Bill Weaver, ACCT Professional Services Manager, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 800-991-0286 extension 913.

Ropesonline Under New Management

E-mail Print PDF

Beginning January 1, 2009, the Association for Challenge Course Technology will begin management of the Ropesonline.org website and listserv.  The ropesonline.org listserv known as the “Ropes List” is the largest online discussion forum in the challenge course industry.

Since 1997 Jeff Anderson of OnBelay, LLC has been hosting and providing management of the Ropes List listserv. Since its inception in 1997 the membership has grown to over 650 members worldwide. The Ropes List serves as an electronic communication vehicle for challenge course users, facilitators, trainers, builders and other enthusiasts to share ideas, ask questions and collaborate.

The growth and development of the challenge course industry has created additional demands on the listserv. Over the past year the Association for Challenge Course Technology has been working with Jeff Anderson of OnBelay, LLC on collaborative efforts for management of the listserv and the ropesonline.org web page for the benefit of the industry.

The listserv will maintain its current function as a place for all members of the challenge course industry to come together to collaborate and discuss industry related information in an open format.  ACCT staff will now manage the subscription (and unsubscribe) requests posted directly to the listserv, and “away” messages. The tagline at the bottom of each message will change to reflect that ACCT is now co-hosting the list with OnBelay, LLC. Jeff will continue to serve our community in a technical capacity.

Within the next few months a new archive system for listserv discussions and web site user interface will be posted at www.ropesonline.org. This new system is being developed to allow for simple searching and listing of all previously posted and future discussions making it easier for all users to find the information they are looking for.

Information will be provided to this list and to ACCT membership to keep you abreast of upcoming changes.

Respectfully;
The ACCT Board of Directors & Jeff Anderson, OnBelay, LLC
